Richeille Formento Creative Director at Eyecandy Images Creative Director, takes the PAN 60 second interview.

What age did you leave school?
I left school at 16. I went straight to college to study art. I have never stopped learning…

Where do you live?
Representing Brooklyn, New York.

How did you get into the picture library business?
I started at Digital Vision in 2003 as one of the key Art Directors; building on the success and legacy it has to this date. My experience there enabled me to apply my ethics and codes of practice that I still use today.

What were you doing before that?
I worked as an art director and designer within the fashion industry, working for a large umbrella company responsible for visually communicating new season looks on all graphic works and brands like CK, Diesel, DKNY and various other independent fashion labels.

How many staff at Eyecandy images?
We have a fantastic and dedicated small family style team of six based across the US, UK and Asia.

What are they scanning at the moment?
A fantastic wedding shoot we did in Vegas, it shows a very dramatic view of how the wedding chapels are not always bliss and happiness. Online soon!
Keep an eye on our ‘Latest Photography’ Section on the front page.

Describe your morning?
At home in New York the first thing I do in the morning is feed the Eyecandy Mascots; Wolfy and Dita (Cats) who travel everywhere with us by plane, car and RV. I check in with my emails whilst bubbling up a good old English brew to remind me of my British roots. Then a call to the UK office before their day wraps up to get feedback on European developments, liaising with production making sure I’m aware of all scheduled for that day.

Which picture library web site has recently caught your eye?
I always look out to some of my favorites, like Masterfile, Digital Railroad, Veer etc… But to be honest I am a bit of a magpie and find an eclectic mix of detail from the new picture library websites that catch my eye… I also like to keep track of photographer’s agent sites to see new and up and coming talent.

Which websites do you visit daily other that Eyecandy Images and Photo Archive News?
www.popbitch.com and www.perezhilton.com are hilarious.

Which newspapers and magazines do you read regularly?
I pretty much read magazines for visual content and ideas. My news update on current affairs mainly gets supplied to me by rss feeds stretching from NY Times to The Guardian in the UK.
At the moment I admire Dwell magazine, the Coolhunter and old favorites include Pop! I feel too glossy for inky papers.

When did you last pick up a camera?
I’m holding one now. Tilt your head to the right and smile!

What are you doing when you are not selling photos?
Its hard to pursue anything other than creative interests when your highly charged after a great day of shooting, to wind down we visit local live jazz bars and shoot pool, or have a good meal with friends, we have even been known to be found belting out 80's classics at Sing Sing in the village! That or stalking David Bowie now that we share the same city!!

RF or RM any views?
Both!

Favorite food?
Pie & mash with Parsley Liquor and Egg chips and beans for a hangover with Brown Sauce.

Cinema or pub?
Pub when I am back in London for the local ambience and charm (and a good pint of ale!) and cinema when I am back home in Brooklyn as we have a handful of independents where I live, they show an array of flicks that could keep you in ideas for every night of the week!

Ideal Friday night?
Depends where I am, if I’m shooting and on location then trying a new restaurant or maybe a party with the crew. If I am home then a good bottle of wine and a film and curling up with the cats and my husband.

Ideal holiday destination?
That’s a hard one as we travel so much and shoot, so even a holiday destination turns into a work one! I would say my favorite so far was Cuba for pure removal from current life and seeing such a different non-commercialized destination.

Lastly what advice would you give to any new picture library.
Don’t give in to set backs, if you really want to achieve and succeed you can do whatever you want to do with sheer dedication and determination. Just because you want, doesn’t mean you get.
Open your mind, think out of the box, take a risk and be daring. Never leave the house without your eyebrows, shades and killer high heels no matter what the weather will be.
