Picture researcher required to join growing team at Mary Evans.
Mary Evans Picture Library is the UK’s leading resource for historical pictures and has been supplying the publishing, media and design industries with images from its extensive archives for over forty years. The last eighteen months has seen considerable expansion of the business, both in terms of the clients we work with and the increasing size of the Mary Evans collection. Subsequently, we are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable new member of staff to join the picture research team.
Responsibilities will include:
• Online picture research from the large collection of images already scanned and available through the website.
• Offline picture research and retrieval of original material from the archive.
• Primary responsibility for handling enquiries concerning the Illustrated London News Picture Library.
• Prioritising picture requests so that all deadlines are met comfortably.
• Regular contact with clients in order to check on project progress and to maintain good long term working relationships with clients.
• Negotiation of picture usage fees with a broad range of clients.
• Captioning and keywording of pictures.
Skills and qualifications ideally required
• Excellent communication and telephone skills.
• A good eye for detail.
• A keen interest in and knowledge of history.
• Broad general knowledge.
• Proven administrative experience and computer literacy.
• Proven ability to prioritise work.
• Education to degree level, ideally in a history related subject.
• Foreign language skills would be advantageous, but not essential.
