Sarah Wakely
Sarah Wakely, Practical Motorhome’s deputy editor, recently won a prestigious award for the best caravanning article of 2007, while editor Robert Ganley ensured the Haymarket title swept the category by taking second place.
Wakely beat off strong competition for Best Article at the Caravan Club Media Awards 2007, including entrants from the Times newspaper and the Caravan Club’s own magazine.
Her feature ‘Fire and Ice’ detailed her epic trip in a Volkswagen camper van to Iceland last summer. She braved choppy seas to spend a week exploring lava fields, vast glaciers and... lobster parties.
The judging panel were impressed by how Wakely made her trip read “like an adventure to another world”.
Ganley said: “This is a brilliant result for Sarah. Practical Motorhome tries to capture the spirit of adventure and put it down on paper for our readers, and no one does this better than Sarah. It’s a great acknowledgement of her outstanding writing ability.”
Freelance journalist Doug King was named Best Journalist on the basis of three stories, including ‘Danger, gas leak’, published in Practical Motorhome.
