AP Images
AP Images is the commercial photo licensing business of the Associated Press, the world’s oldest and largest news agency, and generates significant revenue. It offers professional picture buyers access to the most comprehensive collection of 20th Century photographs from AP’s vast print, negative and online photo library. AP Images licenses photos for editorial, advertising, personal and corporate use, as well as other purposes, and also provides customized assignment services to assist organizations with all their photography needs.
AP Images offers the following products and services:
AP Photo Library – a vast collection of photos featuring current events, historical, sports, entertainment, and much more;
AP Images.com – a web site with more than 8 million photos from AP’s current photo production and a selection of historical images from the photo library. Additionally AP Images offers content from selected partners such as Ebony/Jet, Kyodo International and others.
Assignment Services – AP provides customers with photographers and facilities to take moving and still imagery according to their specific needs, and to provide distribution via AP’s global networks;
Research & Delivery –representatives will research the AP photo collection and deliver images on behalf of customers.
The Position
Product Manager, AP Images
(Competitive Basic Salary + Performance Related Bonus Plan)
With responsibility for the AP Images “product” outside of the Americas, this position forms part of the International Sales Team. The position is based in London reporting to the Director of International Archives, and with a `dotted line` to AP Images’ New York-based senior management.
The Product Manager will be responsible for promoting the use and adoption of AP Images products through customer sales calls, crafting and delivering customer presentations / proposals, as well as identifying and securing new business from a wide variety of organisations for AP’s commercial assignment services. The role will be closely related to both sales and product development, but with an emphasis on marketing and convincing customers to use more AP content, both directly and through working with our international distributors. Specific responsibilities include:
- Generating new customers for AP’s corporate assignment services.
- Identifying and targeting direct sales prospects, and approaching them in conjunction with other AP sales staff.
- Working with key clients, AP sales staff and sales distributors to up-sell additional AP content, including products such as GraphicsBank and special packages relating to key events (World Cup, Oscars, etc).
- Proposal generation including exclusive sales opportunities.
- Carrying out detailed competitor analysis and making recommendations as to how AP should position itself in terms of pricing, content presentation, sales and marketing messages.
- Providing meaningful user / customer feedback for product development (content and technical capabilities).
- In conjunction with the marketing department, produce demo toolkits, marketing materials, and conduct presentations and webinars for customers, sales staff and distributors.
Candidate qualifications:
- Seven years sales or product marketing experience, with at least three years of sales in a licensing business.
- The individual should have experience in managing sales goals and targets, as well as have demonstrated the ability to thrive in a sales oriented environment.
- Three years of image industry experience – in editorial, creative stock or assignment photography business. The candidate must also have a sound understanding of video.
- Superior leadership qualities. The ideal candidate will be highly innovative, self-motivated and resourceful. Specifically, the ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for the job and a proven track record of sales successes, marketing savvy and business acumen.
- Deep knowledge of Internet technologies and e-commerce. AP Images makes use of digital or electronic delivery technologies. While the individual does not need to have a technical background, he/she needs to know these technologies to sell and discuss in a sales or marketing setting and with customers.
- Superior written and oral communications skills.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentational programs.
- The ability to collaborate with a diverse range of internal teams is essential.
- Fluency in another major European language would be advantageous.
