Industry Event: Stock Footage Show – New York 15 Nov

Following a successful event in London last year, the organisers of footageMarketplace, a business network event for the video and stock footage industry, are launching a similar event in New York on 15 November.
They say; ‘Given the increase in use of moving image on tablets, the web and smart phones, and the proliferation of TV channels and independent production houses, footageMarketplace provides a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of the stock footage available. The event brings together 28 major international stock footage libraries, each showing their specialist footage collections as well as launching recent acquisitions.’
“At the London event, just seeing what is available sparked ideas for projects, as well as being a valuable source of business contacts for the future,” said show organiser Robert Prior, “Our visitors – directors, producers, researchers, editors and designers – said that it would definitely be viewed as a permanent annual event for them and we expect it to be equally valuable for the visitors to the New York event.”

SNTV Books Into 2016 Summer Games – Opens Rio Bureau
![]()
SNTV, the joint venture between IMG Media and The Associated Press, has announced it will open a new bureau in Rio de Janeiro.
The sports video news agency will locate its new bureau at AP’s office, as the city readies itself for the 2016 Summer Games, a major event in the country’s sporting history.
Martin Kay, managing director of SNTV, said: “Rio de Janeiro will consistently provide the biggest news stories in sport in the run-up to the next Olympic Games so it is essential that we have a presence on the ground as the stories break. Opening the Rio bureau will make sure we continue providing the unrivalled sports news service that our customers expect.”
Ahead of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Games in 2016, the city will also welcome the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, as well as the Soccerex Global Convention later this year and the Sportel Rio conference, the international sports programme market for television and new media, in March 2013.
The Rio de Janeiro bureau will be the fourth permanent location SNTV has outside London. Its other offices are in New York, Beijing and Singapore.
Founded in 1996, SNTV has become an indispensable service for more than 400 international broadcasters. In January, the company became the first and only sports news agency to operate in high definition.
ITN Source Supplies Archive Content For BBC 1960s Cinemas Project

BBC FOUR has commissioned a 20-part series called ‘Britain on Film’ that will use archive footage from over 500 Rank Organisation cinema documentary films to give modern audiences a new visual perspective on the 1960s.
ITN Source, the footage licensing division of ITN, is supplying ten hours of archive to BBC Scotland, which is producing the series. The content is entirely sourced from Rank’s ‘Look at Life’ series, which was shown in Odeon and Gaumont cinemas from 1959 until 1969. The vast majority of this footage has never been seen on television before.
The original footage is taken from 35mm colour reels, with ITN Source restoring some content that had deteriorated over time. The series is Executive Produced by David Okuefuna and is commissioned by the Controller of BBC FOUR, Richard Klein.
“After I was approached by ITN Source, who alerted me to the vast spread of the Look at Life series, I realised there was a wealth of content to bring the sixties to life,” said David Okuefuna, Executive Director of Britain on Film. “The films shine a light on every element of the decade, not just the ‘swinging sixties’ stereotype. We hope this series will be a richly enjoyable trip down memory lane for some – and a window on an unfamiliar world for others.”
The scheduling of Britain on Film has yet to be finalised, but the first run of films are expected to appear on BBC FOUR between now and March 2013. Further details will follow in due course.

The 2012 Virgin London Marathon was licensed to 196 territories, with new licensees transmitting the event for the first time including Central American channel ESPN Sur and pan-Middle Eastern broadcaster OSN. Other licensees set to broadcast the 33rd London Marathon, which takes place on Sunday 21st April 2013, include CCTV-5 in China, SuperSport in South Africa, Globosat in Brazil and Sky Network in New Zealand.
Danny O’Toole, Head of Sport for BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution, commented, “The Virgin London Marathon is a historic race and an incredible spectacle, attracting the very best male and female international long distance runners year after year. We’re really excited to continue distributing one of our most iconic sporting events, and we hope to secure many more new licensees in the coming months.”
Is Content More Valuable Than Distribution?
“How many of you think content is more valuable than distribution? How about the other way around?
It’s an age old debate. What’s really the difference? Audience.
One has an audience- the other owns it. You need to be in the audience business and that’s what I’m going to talk about today….”
