AP Images works with both media and non-media clients to provide photography and video services, including production, distribution and publicity services, around the world. On behalf of its clients, AP coordinates crews, producers, photographers, videographers, and arranges distribution of content over global AP’s distribution network.

AP invites applications for the position of Business Development Manager within the AP Images department, based in London. This role will be offered on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
With responsibility for helping to grow AP Images business among existing and new clients outside of the Americas, this position is based in London reporting to the AP Images Director of International Business Development.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for account managing existing AP Images clients, growing business and developing new business leads through customer sales calls, crafting and delivering customer presentations / proposals.
Knowledge and Experience:
• Proven sales or product marketing experience.
• Proven image or video industry experience – in editorial, creative stock or assignment photography or video business.
• Experience in managing sales goals and targets, as well as have demonstrated the ability to thrive in a sales oriented environment.
• Strong analytical skills are required and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong and well-rounded writing and presentation skills.
• Superior leadership qualities. The ideal candidate will be highly innovative, self-motivated and resourceful. Specifically, the ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for the job and a proven track record of sales successes, marketing savvy and business acumen.
• Deep knowledge of Internet technologies and e-commerce. AP Images makes use of digital or electronic delivery technologies.  While the individual does not need to have a technical background, he/she needs to know these technologies to sell and discuss in a sales or marketing setting and with customers.
• Superior written and oral communications skills.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentational programs.
• The ability to collaborate with a diverse range of internal teams is essential.
• Fluency in another major European language would be advantageous.

‘The main role is commissioning across titles, both in the UK and worldwide although there is usually only one or two international jobs. I can leave a list of photographers we use so contacts are not essential and the Art Editors can advise if guidance is needed. It’s a really cool job working with excellent creative photographers and the team here are brilliant. Its a very jolly office and you’re pretty much left to get on with things. The other part of the job is picture research and I’d be surprised if you don’t know the agencies we use as they are all pretty mainstream but again will leave lists with passwords etc along with a complete handover.’

Job description
Panos Pictures is looking for an assignments editor to oversee all commissions and assignments. He/she will be responsible for the day to day selection of photographers for assignments through to the final delivery of photography to the client. The assignments editor must develop and sustain relationships with Panos photographers, clients and organisations while seeking to expand our client base in the UK and overseas.

He/she will also oversee the Social Media output of the agency (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, PanosSOCIAL) and have a clear sense of the impact of the medium tied to the aims and objectives of the agency.

The assignments editor is a key member of the Panos Pictures’ team, working closely alongside the Editor and Multimedia team and reporting directly to the Director and Profile Director.

Role & responsibilities

• Liaise between clients and photographers
• Logistical organisation and support for photographers
• Negotiate contracts and fees
• Brief photographers for assignments
• Ensure correct and prompt delivery of photography
• Collect expenses and receipts on behalf of the photographer and agency
• Invoicing for assignments
• Meeting with clients
• Informing clients of photographers’ plans and whereabouts
• Keep abreast of new and emerging talent
• Responsible for social media output – regular updates on Twitter and Facebook, oversee production of SOCIAL page on Panos website
• Emergency response. Coordinating agency’s response when photographers find themselves in difficulties.

Skills and experience

• Some previous experience of organising and overseeing assignments
• Knowledge and experience of producing social media
• Good working knowledge of photoshop and other imaging software
• Organisational, communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
• Photo editing skills
• European language preferably French, German, Italian or Spanish
• HTML and WordPress blogs
• Bachelors degree in a relevant subject

WHO WE ARE: akg-images is a Rights Managed photo agency specialising in fine art and history. We have an incredible archive of over ten million images covering the cultural history of the world and have been in the picture business for nearly seventy years. Our head office is located in Berlin and we have an additional office in Paris.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the managing director as part of a small picture research team, you will be responsible for undertaking picture research based on briefs given by clients, researching our own collection as well as our international partner agencies’ databases. You will be dealing with a diverse range of clients, from academic textbook publishers to greetings cards manufacturers, from advertising agencies to television production companies. You will also work closely with our documentation and scanning teams in our head office to source material and with our translators to translate caption information from German into English where appropriate. You will also be involved in the promotion and marketing of the company and will represent the photo agency at trade fairs and client visits. There are opportunities for foreign travel for the successful candidate.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: You must be educated to undergraduate degree level (or equivalent) at least, ideally in history or art history. You must also have strong general knowledge. Previous experience working in a picture research environment is essential. Fluency in written and spoken German is crucial; we will not be able to consider applicants without advanced German language skills. A working knowledge of another European language would also be useful.

You must have keen research skills and be able to interpret a variety of image briefs thoroughly and creatively. Knowledge of photographic and artistic copyright legislation is essential for the role. Interest or experience in the publishing and/or advertising sectors, as well as awareness of the latest developments in new technology, is desirable.

You should be helpful by nature, friendly, outgoing and efficient with excellent organisation and communication skills. You must be able to thrive under the pressure of deadlines. You should have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and imaging software, as well as some experience in using image databases. Experience with using social media for business would also be advantageous.
