Spotted: PAN Reader Finds The Queen – BBC Picture Editor Comments

Her Majesty visiting Diamonds in the park Jubilee event near Crickhowell, Wales – Jon Phillips

This image of the Queen on a vist to Wales shot by PhotoArchiveNews.com reader photographer Jon Phillips made the BBC Your Week In Pictures edit this week.
Jon who is just getting into the pro photography field sent PAN the image this morning and told us: “Attempts to get formally “accredited” for the event failed so had to jostle with the rest of Her Majesty’s subjects to find a clear line of sight therefore fortunate to get the smile and the welsh flag for a bit of context.”
PAN asked Picture Editor at bbc.co.uk, Phil Coomes (PAN Interview 2010) for his thoughts on Jon’s shot:
“That’s a cracking shot to get if he was in the crowd as anyone who has covered one of these events will tell you. The Queen’s expression is spot on and the depth of field draws her face out of the frame, while the background of the smiling women and the Welsh flag tell us more about the event and location.”
Jon is based in South Wales he is available for commissions: www.muen.co.uk
